There has never been a better time to consider getting a digital photo frame for your home or office. The cost of these frames has absolutely tumbled over the last year or so – there are two principle reasons for this:
Firstly, because of greatly increased sales volume spread over the last year or so, producers were able to take advantage of economies of scale. The end result was a major reduction in the cost of the materials and components used in the manufacture of electronic frames.
Secondly, in the run up to Christmas of 2008, we saw extremely aggressive pricing by the big manufacturers aimed at either growing or defending their market penetration. This led to further price reductions.
Even without the aforementioned price reductions, digital photo frames represent superb value for money.
If, like many people, you have a large collection of photographs built up over the years, these might be your most effective way of getting them on display. In all probability you have only a fraction of your collection printed out and mounted in conventional frames around your home. Apart from the fact that there just isn’t enough room to show all your photos in normal frames, the cost would be excessive.
Nevermind the cost of the frames – even although this would be large – just the cost of processing conventional photos would be enormous. Whether you elected to do this with your own personal photo printer or if you used a processing laboratory wouldn’t make very much difference – it would take a lot of money.
So apart from the fact that you can now pick up a digital photo frame for around about the same cost as a normal frame, when you consider that a digital frame can display, quite literally, hundreds of photos, the benefits become more obvious. Even if you were to splash out and buy yourself one of the top end digital frames for a few hundred dollars then, on a “per photo on display” basis, it would still be a lot more cost effective than printing out hundreds of photos and mounting them in traditional frames.
Admittedly, that may not be an exact “like for like” comparison. The likelihood is that the added functionality of the digital photo frame will encourage you to put photos on show which would otherwise not have seen the light of day. Given that your photos are actually memories from important points throughout your life that’s probably worth quite a bit in itself.
