Sharp Corporation stopped selling the Sharp JX 9660 Printer - Sharp JX 9660 Toner in 2005. The Japanese-based consumer electronics giant, founded 97 years ago by mechanical pencil inventor Tokuji Hayakawa, has two associate companies; Loewe AG and Pioneer Corporation. Sharp Corporation has approximately 60 plants in thirty countries and 45,000 employees. There is no longer any information on the Sharp JX 9660 Printer - Sharp JX 9660 Toner on the Sharp websites. This lack of information combined with Sharp’s reputation as a leading manufacturer of multi-function devices, makes it impossible for me to determine whether the Sharp JX 9660 Printer is a laser printer or a fax machine or both, as it is referred to in both ways on the websites of aftermarket toner, cartridge and ink suppliers.

The JX 96xx generation of components is still in use and there is still a demand for service and parts. There is certainly no shortage of after-market suppliers hawking printing supplies for JX 96xx laser printers or fax machines, with cartridges, drums and toners widely available.

Core product technologies for the Sharp Corporation at this time are: video projectors, mobile phones, microwave ovens, CMOS sensors, flash memory, CCD sensors, LCD panels, solar panels, audio-visual entertainment equipment including flat screen TVs, photocopiers and cash registers.

Sharp Corporation made the first mass-market camera phone, which was released in Japan in November 2000. Sharp manufactures a variety of consumer electronic products, including the highly successful Aquos brand of LCD televisions, air purification systems, mobile phones, home cinema systems, microwave ovens, audio systems, calculators and fax machines.

In the business market for electronic components Sharp is a player in photocopiers, fax machines, laser printers cash registers and other point of sale devices like ATM card readers. Sharp Solar is a Welsh-based division that manufacturers crystalline silicon solar cells. It is a major manufacturer of PV (photovoltaic) modules. These solar cells are used in everything from lighthouses to satellites.

Multi-function devices have been Sharp’s forte for a number of years. The camera cell phone success prompted the company to pursue this line and they continue to introduce MFDs every year. It is a difficult area to dominate. Taking a fax machines and using the printer element to print off the LAN doubles the number of competitors. It also means the solution is doubly vulnerable to technological obsolescence. To counteract this weakness, Sharp uses an open source operating system for its peripherals.

Loewe AG is a German manufacturer of consumer electronics that was founded in founded in Berlin in 1923 by brothers Siegmund and David Loewe. Today the company is mainly a developer of high-end large screen TV sets. 29% of the company is owned by Sharp, giving the company a high-end offset to the market its low-end Aquos LCD brand dominates.

Sharp’s other associated company is Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer Pioneer Corporation. Since 2007 Pioneer Corporation has been controlled by Sharp Corporation. In early 2009, the Pioneer Corporation announced it will stop manufacturing TVs by March of next year. It is expected that joint venture with Sharp in the optical line of business will follow.

For those of you who are still using a JX 9660 component, Sharp JX 9660 printer toner is no longer available, but Sharp compatible toner cartridges, drums or Printer toner cartridges easy to find.
