Moreover, such a lawn represents the ideal habit for some of the favorite meals in the menu of a snake: mice and other small rodents, frogs, locusts and crickets. A short lawn will be avoided by snakes as an unsafe space that makes them easy prey for other predatory species like hawks and owls. Crowded areas close to the house could pose just the same risk of, turning into abodes for poisonous or non-poisonous snakes. Hence, eliminate wood stacks, open sheds and compost heaps from the yard.

In wild areas on the Black continent, local people use camel or goat hair ropes as great snake repellant means: snakes cannot move over such rough and unpleasant surfaces. Aborigines will often guard their bed location with such ropes to protect. Modern tent design takes this snake repellant issue very seriously, which is why there are usually nets that have to be zipped up in order to prevent snakes and other insects from getting inside. Always check whether the entrance of the tent is well zipped, preferably in the upper part of the tent closing area, or else you could end up sharing your bed with uninvited guests.
